PostHeaderIcon How Wi-Fi Data Transmission is Unlocking Critical OTMR Information to Improve Rail Fleet Management

Rail safety specialist, Rowe Hankins, has introduced the first Wi-Fi enabled on-train monitoring and recording unit (OTMR) on the UK rail network. The Teloc unit from HaslerRail has been installed by Rowe Hankins on a Porterbrook Turbostar operated by London Midland as part of a long term trial.

 

The trial started in June and is expected to run for at least six months. Steve Stone, technical director at Rowe Hankins, commented, “The main purpose of the OTMR remains as an evidential recorder for judicial purposes but data transmission by Wi-Fi is a considerable advance in making this high value data more useful in strategic management.” Read the rest of this entry »

World Mental Health Day on 10th October seeks to raise public awareness of the issues surrounding mental health by promoting discussion of illnesses and the need for improved treatment and prevention initiatives. Statistics quoted by the World Health Organisation (WHO) for 2002 suggest that 154 million people globally suffer from depression, just one form of mental illness. (1) Helen McNallen, ex-city trader, depression sufferer and founder of the website Depression Can Be Fun, is now publishing a book of the same name, to pass on the important message of depression and mental illness through humour and help people see that, with treatment, there is light at the end of the tunnel.

Forty-five lacrosse organizations in 23 states will receive US Lacrosse Equipment Grants this year. The US Lacrosse Equipment Grant Program, in its eleventh year, is an annual offering of US Lacrosse. Since the inception of the Equipment Grant Program, US Lacrosse has donated equipment to over 300 fledgling lacrosse programs with the retail value of more than $ 1,650,000.

 

The US Lacrosse Equipment Grant is one of the most impactful programs that US Lacrosse offers. It directly supports the growth of lacrosse across the country, allowing more youth to have the opportunity to play the sport each year.
